When we're very young, we generally don't give much thought to aging. Into our 20's and 30's, we feel like we have enough energy to conquer the world. Eventually, however, reality sets in. We notice gray hairs, move more slowly, and deal with a few aches and pains. But even though aging does have some negative effects, in many ways, we get better as we get older. Consider 5 ways that's true.
- Wisdom. Oh the many mistakes we made in life because we had little or no practical wisdom. With time though, we have learned so much. We can make better decisions and avoid many of life's pitfalls, all with much greater ease than our younger counterparts.
- Social skills. The art of conversation is slowly dying. But not with older ones. We can converse with others on a variety of subjects. We know how to have fun without the use of electronics. And over the years, we've learned to get along with a variety of personality types.
- Contentment. The anxiety of accumulating material things can consume people. But older ones value the things that are truly important in life like family and friends. Therefore, we are much happier individuals.
- Positive outlook. We know that the light is brighter at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. So when problems do arise, we can patiently work them out, knowing that there is a viable solution. Younger people are sometimes easily rattled by fear of the future.
- Appreciation. We have ditched the feeling of entitlement and are grateful when others show kindness for us. And gratitude makes people want to continue caring for us.
If you take the time to think about it, you'll find many more ways we get better as we age. So enjoy your golden years, and help others to do the same.
